Ignorance or Self Indentity?

Ever since i was young, my traditional Guyanese family has always talked down "Black" people. As a result, I have shyed away from refering to myself and other Caribbean/ West Indian people as "Black" people. On applications that ask for race or ethnicity information, I ALWAYS check the "OTHER" box and write Caribbean or Guyanese.

I dont refer to myself as being "African- American" or "Black". why? Because in my mind and the minds of my family members, our roots are in Guyana- NOT Africa.

(*SB* Please dont confuse GUYANA with GHANA... i get offended. its like calling a Japanese Chinese.)
I understand the history of the Diaspora- dont get me wrong... I just dont identify with the whole "African- American" title. In my eyes, I am an American-Guyanese or Caribbean/ West Indian individual.

Do you think this is ignorance on my behalf or am i accepting my own view of my self- identity?

OoOoOo, BABY! if only I coulda been Grace at the time of production on this video! I must applaud the director on this work cuz its just so.... well... BANGIN! #iConfess that i had a half homo moment while watching this. I refuse to say "no homo" cuz of what i stand for as an individual (and no. im not Bi or lesbian). #imjustsayin that this video has that softcore/sensual/sexual/tasteful edge to it that makes you want to be there. But anyways, OMG. I waill continue with my fanning as I go put ALL of Trey's music on repeat while i shower.

just words that came to mind when this guy was tryna holla at me at the bus stop... talkin bout "shortie, im just curious about you."

ME: "REALLY??? How? you have no evidence of my self that would possibly pique your curiousity."

HIM: "Well... i mean... i saw that you was sittin here for a minute. i just had to approach you."

ME: "Thats cool. youre brave."

HIM: "Yeah. so where you from? whats your name? tell me something about you..."

ME: "do you really want to know about me?"

ME: "hi. my name is Andrea and im from new jersey. which means that you are no where close to being on my level or anywhere near being my type. so take your lil raggedy sneakers and keep walkin hun..."
